A man named Gottlieb Daimler built the first ever-motorized truck back in 1896. He was a German automotive pioneer who also invented the very first motorcycle, as well as the world’s first taxi. Daimler’s truck consisted of a four horsepower engine, a belt drive, one reverse speed and two speeds for going forward.

In early times, the intended use and purpose of a truck was for industrial reasons. They were used to haul things, and as new needs developed, so did new types of trucks. In early times of war, trucks were used to move ammunition and troops from one place to another, as well as to transport the injured and causalities among the soldiers.

Trucks were also invented that could be used for commercial purposes such as logging, farming, and later to mix and pour materials such as concrete. Later on, huge trucks were invented for the sole purpose of hauling other trucks and vehicles from their place of manufacture to sales centers all over the world.

Today, trucks are used for a myriad of reasons, and many different types of people own and drive them. Farmers everywhere use trucks to haul hay and small farm equipment, to move cattle as well as supplies. Those in the landscape and lawn maintenance industries also use trucks; wherein trailers are attached to the trucks in order to get lawn equipment from job to job.

Trucks are not only used for job related tasks, boating enthusiasts also utilize them. There are not many reliable cars that are going to be able to pull a large, recreational type boat, and where would you put the skis, ice chests and other necessities if the trucks’ spacious bed were not available?

Trucks are made by a number of vehicle manufacturers. There are the regular size passenger trucks that seat only two people, and the large extended cab trucks that can seat five people comfortably. There are the plain trucks that come with just the basics, and trucks that come fully loaded with every available option.

Some people enjoy the sport of four wheeling, and so they purchase trucks that allow them to drive over rough terrain and through bogs of mud! These trucks are equipped with 4-wheel drive, while other trucks not intended for this purpose would come standard with 2-wheel drive.

When in search of a truck, you will need to examine your needs, and also determine exactly what the truck will be used for. If you have a large family, then a truck would probably not make a good primary vehicle for you. However, if you need a solid piece of transportation that can be utilized to haul things around, and that you can attach a trailer to, a truck might just be a worthwhile investment.

How do you like this good news Senate Votes To Put The Brakes On Mexican Trucks! No funding - No program!?
The Senate just passed the Dorgan Amendment that would cut off funding for the Mexican truck pilot program implemented last week, under the cover of darkness by the Bush administration, in spite of the safety issues reported by the Inspector General.

Senator Cornyn (R-TX) and Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) exchanged their views on the issue.

Cornyn repeatedly said, “Let’s just give it a chance and see if there are any issues” and offered his own amendment to fund the pilot program. He also stated that “many of the lessons to be learned about the safety of these trucks will be learned on the ground” - sort of an OJT (on the job training) for inspectors but at what cost would it be to the American public?
Senator Dorgan argued that “there is no treaty that would require this Senate to allow something on our highways that is unsafe”. He also argued that the Inspector General issued a report last week at 7:30 and at 8:30 the program was implemented.

Information was not available to the Inspector General about inspection reports, accident reports, and driver violations except for those given to them by “the generosity of the Mexican trucking company”.

The Inspector General raised many unresolved deficiencies but Republicans are saying, “let’s try this and see what happens” - as if the American people are guinea pigs in their huge globalist experiment. Dorgan argued that we have to think about the safety of the American public and asked, “Why the rush?”

The Inspector General reported that the program agreed to check every-truck-every-time but there are no sites to carry out these inspections prior to initiating the program which means we would now have a greater risk that they would be able to bypass the required inspections.

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) argued, “Unsafe trucks on our roads, unsafe food on our tables, unsafe pet food for our pets, unsafe toys for our children…all of these are problems with trade . . . if we don’t write safety into our trade deals, we put Americans at risk . . . instead of trade deals that benefit CEO’s we should make deals that benefit everyone else.”

And knowing that common sense was not on his side, Senator Cornyn threw out . . . oh no he didn’t . . .

“Public safety is number one . . . we agree on that and my amendment guarantees safety but this seems more about protectionism and fear of competition in the marketplace . . . fear of free trade . . . If this is about safety, fine. But if this is about the fear of competition and discriminating against Mexican trucks, I don’t think this is something the Senate should endorse.

    Oh yes he did!

    The Dorgan amendment passed:

    Yeas - 74

    Nays - 24

    The Cornyn amendment failed:

    Yeas - 29

    Nays - 69

    No funding - No program!

Just read in my newspaper, 34 people killed in a wreck in California caused by a Mexican truck driver! This has nothing to do with trade, this has everything to do with the safety of the American public. Do not allow this to happen, let them transfer their goods to American trucks at the border.

It's great news, but the only problem is W never stopped doing what he wants just because it was not funded, so look for him to have a signing statement, and fund it from existing monies from another dept.

I do not see what the big issue is aside from the objections of the intellectuals of the Teamster's Union. They're worried about their make-work jobs, and so they've made Mexican trucks into a safety issue.

Their trucks are inspected at the border and have in fact been driving into the enterprise zones near the borders for several years now without incident. Their safety record is about as good as ours, and we can't get enough US truck drivers anyway (it's hard work, which is something Mexicans seem to be good at.)

None of this has anything to do with immigration.

It's not about the cargo in foreign trucks: it's about what's UNDER the cargo in foreign trucks.

No public funds, but I hope they don't privatize it and let another country fund it.

I know that the Sierra Club had concerns about the program. Does anyone know if the Mexican trucks were required to meet US pollution standards?

This is proof that if enough Americans contact their elected officials, and make them do OUR BIDDING, instead of allowing them to pander to foreign interest, the system is not broken! It needs a lot of work, but it's not broken.
To every one of you that took the time to say "No way, Jose!", I thank you!
